Real Patient Results: What GLP-1 Weight Loss Looks Like

Let’s get personal, I’ve used a GLP-1 to lose over 70 pounds, and I would do it again.

Being a woman of a “certain age” has brought me wisdom and perspective that only life can give, and for which I am extremely thankful.  On the other hand, stress, menopause, and following unhealthy dieting practices wrecked my metabolism.  Along with that came excess weight that I COULD NOT lose, even with the most valiant efforts.

It seemed that nearly overnight, I didn’t recognise myself.  I felt betrayed by my body.  There was a time when a healthy diet and exercise routine were enough to maintain a healthy weight.  This was no longer the case.  “What did I do wrong?” I would ask myself.  I’m barely eating, I’m exercising, why am I gaining weight?!  So, naturally, I went to my Doctor to get some help... so I thought.

Speaking with my doctor was humiliating!  What do you mean, “weight gain is typical as we age”? What do you mean, “have you tried diet and exercise”?!  Hello, Doc, I’ve been able to manage my weight my entire life up until now?!  This can’t be an “it is what it is” situation.  So, let’s run some tests…. surprise, labs are normal!  Ugh!  I felt helpless, and like it was a personal failure that I had gained weight in the first place, and now am unable to lose it.

I’d always thought, I can do this on my own.  I’ve done it before.  Diet and exercise are completely in my control.  But I’ve been consistent with exercise, my diet hasn’t changed, and my labs are normal.   Why can’t I lose weight?! On top of that, my clothes don’t fit, and I don’t want to see people or go do fun things because I feel so self-conscious and embarrassed.  I lived in this purgatory for years.  Thinking I could do it myself.  Thinking a GLP1 was a “fad” and that a weight loss shot was the “easy way out”.   But my frustrations overpowered my skepticism about GLP-1s, so I decided to get more information and try it out for myself.

I scheduled a consultation, went to a medspa, and talked with a Nurse Practitioner.  This experience was the total opposite of my doctor visit.  I felt like someone truly wanted to help me, and that there was a real solution.  She didn’t make me feel bad about being overweight.  She talked to me about my health history and my weight loss goals.  She recommended Tirzepatide for me, and I just felt… relieved.  Finally, someone listened to me, actually heard and understood my frustrations, and we’ve got a game plan.

She explained how tirzapetide mimics two natural hormones in your body:

  • GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1)

  • GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide)

And that helps you feel full faster, reduces hunger cravings, and makes it easier to eat less without feeling deprived. Plus, it keeps you feeling full for hours, prevents overeating, helps stabilize blood sugar after meals, releases insulin when needed, lowers excess blood sugar, reduces sugar spikes after eating, encourages fat loss, and helps the body use energy more efficiently. Yes, please!

She reviewed how to inject myself each week, and gave me lots of support through the process.  The first thing I noticed almost immediately was the “food noise” being gone.  I wasn’t constantly thinking about food, and as soon as I was full, I could no longer eat another bite.  My cravings for the occasional “sweet treat” before bed went away.  And, within the first week, I lost 2 pounds!  A small, but extremely sweet victory.

I’ve been taking tirzapetide for about a year, and I’m almost down to my goal weight.  I am wearing clothes I thought I’d never wear again, and I see the person in the mirror that I remember, the person that I know I am.  If you’re thinking about starting a GLP-1 medication, I highly recommend scheduling that consultation.  It’s a commitment to yourself, your health, and well-being.
